Country music artist Walker Montgomery is officially engaged to Krista Slaubaugh, member of the rising country duo Tigirlily Gold.
The heartwarming proposal took place on Monday, May 26, near a serene pond nestled in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
The couple’s love story began in 2023 when Walker performed in Kansas City, Missouri. During a meet-and-greet, he boldly declared his affection: “Tell the tall one from Tigirlily Gold I’m in love with her.” Krista, amused and intrigued, soon heard about the comment through mutual friends—and decided to reach out.
“I slid into his DMs and asked, ‘How’s Kansas City lately?’” Krista recalled in a recent interview with PEOPLE.
Since then, their bond has only grown stronger. After nearly two years of dating, the couple is now preparing for their next chapter together.
Walker carefully planned a romantic getaway, telling Krista they were taking a simple road trip from Nashville to North Carolina. What she didn’t know was that he had chosen a charming countryside venue known locally as The Farm for the big moment.
When they arrived, Walker led her to a quiet spot by the water and got down on one knee.
“He said, ‘Krista, I want you to be my wife. Will you marry me?’” Krista said, recalling the emotional moment. “I immediately said yes and kissed him before he stood up and placed the ring on my finger.”
Krista described the experience as “overwhelming in the best way.” With tears of joy streaming down her face, she embraced the proposal as everything she had hoped for. “We had known for a while that we wanted to spend our lives together,” she said. “I couldn’t have imagined it more perfect.”
