A furious row erupted on GB News after the programme was interrupted for a breaking alert on Rachel Reeves. Ben Leoâs show came to a halt after it was announced there was a 0.1% fall in growth in October, leading economists to question whether the UK is heading for a recession. Joining the presenter was political commentator Jonathan Lis and journalist Cristo Foufas, who clashed over whether Britain leaving the European Union is to blame for the lack of growth.
Claiming trust in politics is âon the floorâ because the Labour government âlied through its teethâ to get elected, Foufas believes reversing Brexit would completely destroy peopleâs faith in democracy. âThis is the worst argument. It was 10 years ago, mate,â Lis interjected. âEvery single poll suggests the vast majority of people now support rejoining.â The 48-year-old claimed that the divide between those who voted for Brexit and those who supported Remain has âdied outâ.
A frustrated Foufas stepped in: âWhy donât we try, rather than blaming Brexit, enact some policies that give us some economic growth.â

As Lis attempted to interject, Foufas launched a blistering attack on the Chancellor. He exclaimed: âHang on! Do you know what offends me? Most of my salary needing to go to fund Rachel Reeves, who basically wouldnât know the truth if it came and cut her bob hairstyle, having to finance the nonsense she comes up with by putting the benefits up by not financing any growth whatsoever.â
When Foufas claimed Lis was attempting to blame the lack of growth on Brexit, he hit back: âListen to what I say, not what you want me to say. I didnât say I blame it on Brexit.â
Despite agreeing with Foufas that the government has not done enough to increase growth and productivity, he believes there is an âelephant in the roomâ that is causing the economy to lose its growth and value. He added: âAt least own your hypocrisy, Cristo. Own it!â

A confused Foufas questioned why they were discussing Brexit if thatâs not what he is blaming the lack of growth on. âItâs one factor,â Lis explained.
Things turned heated as the pair continued speaking over each other, with Foufas raging: âLet me finish!â
But Lis continued: âI said Brexit was a part of it. Brexit is still a huge issue and if weâre talking about why Britain isnât growing, we need to address that elephant in the room. Iâm sorry it offends you but it happens to be true.â
An enraged Foufas took another furious swipe at Rachel Reeves, retorting: âThat doesnât offend me in the slightest. What offends me is the ridiculous policies we have by a Chancellor who is so out of her depth she needs a life jacket, giving us the highest taxes in history, businesses on their knees, rates through the roof, unemployment going up month by month, debt higher than when it was in the pandemic.

Ben Leo was forced to cut the debate short (Image: GB News)
âWhy on earth would you think that Brexit is going to help matters? All thatâs going to do is make people who have the tiniest faith in politics left feel even more upset.â
Lis snapped back: âThatâs not true at all. First of all if you actually listen to what I say. I know you donât like doing that, but I did say that Iâm not supporting relitigating that argument right now. I donât think that we should go back into the EU right now or put that suggestion to the British people, even though the vast majority support doing just that.â
As they started speaking over each other again, Leo was forced to step in. âOne at a time because we canât hear you,â he demanded.
Foufas questioned once again why Lis had mentioned Brexit, leading him to declare: âCristo, you cannot be this obtuse. I never said that Brexit wasnât to blame. Iâm saying that I donât think we should relitigate the argument in public by going back into the EU, but of course, Brexit is one of the factors to blame for Britainâs slowing growth. Obviously.
As the duo kept going, Leo attempted to bring the debate to a close. But they both wouldnât leave it, forcing the presenter to demand: âThank you. Alright⊠Thatâs enough, guys.â
