American Idol 2025 winner Jamal Roberts returned to his hometown of Meridian, Mississippi, on Saturday night for a powerful homecoming concert that blended soul, gratitude, and unforgettable emotion.
Held at Q.V. Sykes Park, the Welcome Home Celebration drew over 4,000 fans eager to celebrate the local star who captivated over 26 million viewers during his rise to stardom.
A Night of Music, Heart, and Family
Roberts opened his set with crowd favorites, including “Liar” by Jelly Roll and his fan-acclaimed single “Heal.” But the most unforgettable moment came when the music paused and he turned to his biggest inspiration—his mother.
In front of a hushed crowd, Roberts embraced her and performed a deeply emotional ballad dedicated to her. Tears flowed throughout the park as his raw, soulful vocals filled the night sky. It was more than a performance—it was a heartfelt tribute that left the entire audience moved.
“It’s always been love in my hometown,” Roberts told the cheering crowd. “They’ve supported me since before American Idol, before Sunday Best. Coming home to this kind of love is everything.”

Meridian Celebrates Its Hometown Hero
Longtime supporters gathered to witness a full-circle moment. Betty Jones, a lifelong Meridian resident, shared her pride:
“I remember Jamal from his school days—singing in class, full of energy. He’s the heartbeat of Meridian. We’re so proud of the light he’s shining on our city and our state.”
Young fans were also thrilled. Jenesis Young, one of Roberts’ former students, beamed with joy:
“I love hearing him sing. I’m so excited he’s back home!”
Clearing the Air with Class
Roberts also took a moment to address recent speculation surrounding the event, thanking former Mayor Percy Bland and local officials for supporting the concert:
“I’m not into politics—I just love Percy. He’s always shown love. Despite the rumors, we made it happen, and the people came out. That’s what matters.”
