With Cole strumming an acoustic guitar and singing a slowed-down rendition of Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida,” Judy accompanied him beautifully on cello, adding an elegant depth to the emotional performance.
Judges React to the Powerful Mother-Son Duet
The performance immediately earned a standing ovation from judges Mel B and Howie Mandel.
Mel B praised Cole’s “really distinctive tone,” adding, “You sailed through that song and made it your own.”
Howie Mandel called it a perfect example of “love emulated on stage,” saying, “My heart is just exploding.”
Even the famously tough Simon Cowell chimed in with high praise. Although he teased that Cole’s audition would have been “really good” solo, he clarified:
“However, with your mum, it was a great audition.”
Despite an initial round of boos from the audience, Cowell’s final words prompted cheers as he and the other three judges gave Cole four resounding “yes” votes, sending him to the next round. The young singer was visibly emotional, wiping away tears as he thanked the judges and crowd.
