Veteran actor Dennis Padilla took to Facebook Live to speak candidly about his strained relationship with daughter Claudia Barretto just days before her wedding to fiancé Basti Lorenzo. Though the video has since been deleted, fans and media outlets quickly picked up on the actor’s heartfelt words, many noting the vulnerability and remorse he expressed.

Padilla, who has had a rocky and often public relationship with his children with former partner Marjorie Barretto, admitted to falling short as a father—particularly to Claudia.

“Masaya na malungkot sa anak kong ito, kasi marami rin talaga akong pagkukulang sa kanila, lalo na dito kay Claui,” he said during the live video. “Natuwa naman ako na nainvited ako sa kanilang wedding. I never expected it kase I already prepared myself na kung magkakaroon ng ganitong occasion, di ko naman sila nakakausap o nakikita madalas. Syempre nagkaron din kami ng mga tampuhan, so it was a big surprise for me to get invited.”

Despite the tension, Padilla shared how deeply touched he was to receive an invitation to Claudia’s wedding—a moment he never anticipated. He offered warm wishes to the couple, while also expressing his longtime dream of becoming a grandfather.

“To Claudia and Basti, I’m so very happy for you and I know that God will bless your wedding. God will bless the both of you,” he said. “Sana magkaroon ako ng apo sa inyo kasi wala pa akong apo sa edad ko. Sana mabigyan niyo ko ng apo bago pumanaw man lang.”

The actor also used the opportunity to reach out directly to Claudia, expressing a desire to rebuild their relationship.

”Sana magkaron pa rin tayo ng communication even after the wedding kase, Claui, gusto ko rin sana makabawi sayo. Andami kong pagkukulang sayo. I love you.”

Neither Claudia Barretto nor Basti Lorenzo have publicly responded to Padilla’s message as of writing.
